YouTube Subscription Widget and Link

written by JoshRimer.com on February 8th, 2011

Ever wondered how you can get your blog readers to really easily subscribe to your YouTube channel without leaving your blog? Well, it’s now easier than ever to do that.

Individuals and businesses on YouTube with websites and blogs should be making most of their online presence by putting a YouTube subscription widget on their website–a fairly new YouTube feature that has been gaining popularity around blog circles. All YouTubers have to do is use the embed code below:

<iframe id=”fr” src=”http://www.youtube.com/subscribe_widget?p=USERNAME” style=”overflow: hidden; height: 105px; width: 300px; border: 0;” scrolling=”no” frameBorder=”0″></iframe>

(You can see how it looks in over there on the right side of this blog –> )

The second one is a sort of special secret url that, upon clicking, will automatically redirect you to the confirm subscription page (where you have to confirm that you want to subscribe to the channel). Just modify the code below by changing the username to yours:

http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=USERNAME

These minimize “page-hopping” for your blog readers and followers so use the widget whenever possible and otherwise try the link, especially linked using keyword rich text.  Considering that YouTubers in total have over 1 billion subscribers, these tips can help you build a regular audience for your videos and increase YouTube views – and who wouldn’t want that!

    Hey Josh,

II knew about the YouTube widget but haven’t used it yet. You have me confused about the special secret URL. Can you explain how to use it? You mention redirect and confirmation.

Give an example of how one would use the link. Sending someone to confirmation page without them subscribing in the first place makes little sense to me unless I’m missing something.

    Hey Josh,

two of my last comments didn’t go through a few days ago as I let you know already.

I posted another test comment just as minute ago and it didn’t go through.

This is my last attempt until you really fix it.

    Hey Josh,

Now it works but only with my name. Using the subject of my blog seems to get Akismet red in the face and dumping the comment.

If you can’t fix it perhaps you want to consider installing Keyword Luv.

Regarding the YT widget I read about it on You Tube but haven’t installed it yet.

Would you check Akismet spam and fish out my other comments. One of them is on the widget and I don’t remember what I said exactly but it was more profound than what I can come up with now.

I guess it’s due to being frustrated with my comments disappearing.

I used Email List Building in lieu of my name. You can ask John Chow how he does it on his blog if you don’t want to use keword luv and yet allow people to use their brand.

    Hi Vance,

Thanks for being persistent with the commenting. :-) I did finally find your previous comment in the “Spam” area so I guess you’re right, Akismet doesn’t like it when you don’t use your name. I’ll add the Keyword Luv plugin (really the only reason I’m at all hesitant is because I have a ton of apps and I hear that too many isn’t good for the blog).

Anyway, the “secret” url is only a secret because YouTube doesn’t actually publish anywhere what a direct link would be to send people to subscribe to your YouTube channel. But by using the one I provided in the post, it will take users direct to your subscription confirmation page (instead of just to your channel). Try it out!

    Great!

It looks like, the keywordluv plugin is working.
    Are you doing youtube marketing?

  8. Vladimir from Domaci Filmovi za Gledanje

Great, this can also be used in PPC marketing as Google adwords or other.

  9. Dino from Garage Door Repairs

Hi Josh, can you help me understand what “the secret url” is all about? Thanks

  10. admin

What is it that you don’t understand Dino? The information about it is in the blog post so I’m not sure what else to tell you.

  11. Anita from Bikini Wax Video

Great advice, Josh. I hadn’t thought about putting an actual widget onto my website’s front page, allowing users to subscribe to my videos. Previously I was just relying on those viewers to visit my site, THEN, YouTube, THEN hoping they subscribed. Cutting down the steps using a widget like this is sure to increase the number of subscribers I get! Thank you!

    Hey Josh,

That’s a nice snippet you have shared with us. It may look spammy, but I really want to say ‘Thanks’ for sharing this. I will return the favor by subscribing to your YouTube Channel. BTW, I see you have already crossed 13K subscribers on YouTube. Well, that’s a good one too. Keep up the spirit mate. Cheers.

You’re welcome Fred – thanks for commenting and subscribing! :-)

  14. Fred from Tech Blog

    Sure Josh,

You have got a new (active) follower :) Thanks for approving my comment mate. Appreciate it. BTW, after commenting, I realized this is an old post, and was worried that you will probably see this as spam, or bump to an old blog post. Luckily, you didn’t, so thanks again.
