Three YouTube Tips

written by JoshRimer.com on February 3rd, 2011

In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Andy Warhol, 1968

Many people still think that the only way they have to stardom is to work intensively on making it big on TV or in movies. But as a lot of us have seen or heard in the news during the last half of the last decade, many people have had the celebrity spotlight shining on them, without even having to step in front of a camera in a Hollywood studio. Thanks to YouTube and its goldmine of videos, fame is no longer a novelty enjoyed by a select few as determined by the bigwigs.

The whole point of this blog really is to share my experiences and knowledge with how I’m trying to do that for myself with YouTube and other social media (you can access some of my YouTube success tips here for a quick recap if you missed them).  And to continue along that same path, here are three more tips on how to go about achieving more YouTube fame:

1. Be on the lookout for the hottest videos around.

Keep yourself updated. Check social media websites and YouTube regularly to learn more about the latest viral videos out there. Take note of what’s getting shared around a lot and what’s being talked about in “old media (radio, newspapers, and TV news).  YouTube is constantly changing so what went viral a year ago probably wouldn’t go viral today – so you need to stay on top of what is or isn’t working now.

2. Evaluate your videos.

Take a look at the videos that bring in the most videos for you and think about the qualities they have that your videos don’t. And ask yourself if you enjoy watching the video you just filmed after editing it – if you didn’t like it, then others probably won’t either so it’s not worth putting up.

3. Post videos as a response to other videos.

Aside from sparking a discussion with the video uploader and among other YouTubers, this can help you get noticed by other accidental viewers too. If it’s one of the two most recent video responses to a video, the thumbnail of it will show up in the comments section enticing more people to check yours out when they’ve finished watching the video that you’re responding to.

So if you want to get famous online, be quick to start a YouTube channel and the get working on those videos. Staying informed, being critical of your own work, and posting video responses are 3 great ways to really get the ball rolling toward a success on YouTube.

Great advice! Thanks for the tips, Youtube is kind of my weakness and i am very glad I just discovered this blog.

Question – have you seen the same type of trends for channels in a “corporate/serious” niche?

Hi Julien, thanks for the comment and I’m glad you found my blog too! All types of videos can follow these basic principles on YouTube. With corporate/serious videos I’d say that finding ways to make them topical and making them personality driven (ie. interesting host/speaker) are good ways to get them found and shared.

    Hey Josh!

I just wanted to write two things about this particular post.

    1) ‘In the future, everyone will be world-famous for 15 minutes.” Andy Warhol, 1968 – How magnificent of a quote is this?! This is the first time I’ve heard this anywhere and it is so reflective of the highly ‘social’ world we live in. Reality TV, Youtube – being ‘world-famous’ have never been easier!

    2) I love the advice of responding to videos with other videos. Not a lot of others would think of doing that, instead opting for text responses but from now on when I start responding to the videos I post for my site – bikiniwaxvideo.org – I’ll be doing so with additional videos! What an ingenious way to get even more viral footprints out there!

    Top post as always, Josh!

  7. Jon Victor from Law Of Attraction

That’s a suitable quote by Andy Warhol you have included in the beginning of the post. Andy Warhol must have dreamed of YouTube, I guess. Nowadays with YouTube there are youngsters becoming stars, got attention and won a contract. Hmm, starting a channel is easy but to be famous, it’s about presenting an engaging video to the world…
