Host an Internet Talk Show – it’s fun, easy, and gets you exposure!

written by JoshRimer.com on January 6th, 2011

The explosion of technology and expansion of new media has brought a new dimension on how we’ll remember television in the next generation. New media advances have brought about an endless stream of opportunities, especially for ordinary people like us to broadcast ourselves without the need for approval from big networks and corporations. You can even skip the whole audition process, or wait for the chance to get spotted by an agent and just do your own thing with  with no holds barred.  And one of the ways to get going right away with little effort (and little technical expertise required) is to host your own live talk show on the internet.

Here are a few tips to get you started:

1. Put on your thinking hat.

You’re not only going to be the host, but also the producer and so begin conceptualizing ideas for it. Start with topics that are close to your heart or that you’re particularly interested in. You cuold talk about movies and the latest movie releases if you’re a movie junkie. If you’re a sports buff, you could talk about sports news and reviews. Sharing tips is also a great way to provide content for your show as it can lead to interaction with your audience when they find what you’re sharing to be useful.

2. Prepare your resources.

The next thing to do is to gather your equipment, which can be a lot easier for a live show than even just regular pre-recorded YouTube videos. You can easily make do with webcams and then you just need a video streaming provider like BlogTV or Ustream.

3. Invite guests on to your show.

Hosting a show by yourself might seem tedious in the long run so invite guests who may help you out in entertaining your audience. Collaborate with your contacts in your personal network, or invite friends with whom you share the same interests. You can go as far as inviting celebrities to your talk show or other noted personalities who can spice up your show by doing interviews and that sort of thing – which can give you both exposure.

4. Share your videos!

When you’ve got all these in check, the next wise thing to do is to promote your videos. Post and share your videos all over the web using social media, like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, and your blog.  Every time I went live with my BlogTV show I put out the word through all 4 of those places, which helped ensure as many people found out about it as possible.

Doing a live show on a regular basis can also help you grow a faithful following. And once that happens, you can start to also monitize your show with a partner program (BlogTV and Ustream both offer one) and even by getting your own on-air sponsors.

Doing an internet talk show is an easy way to help make a name for yourself in cyberspace. And since internet television is still really just in the beginning of where’s it’s bound to go, now’s really the best time to get on it and become one of the pioneers, so to speak. Who knows? Maybe you’ll get remembered as the Johnny Carson or Oprah of internet talk shows of this generation!  :-)
