Andy and I spent a ton of time preparing for the Great American Pitchfest.
We worked on our verbal pitch, redid part of our demo and tightened up the rest, fixed
up the packaging, revised the proposal, created business cards,
updated our other materials, and researched companies who would be in LA.
Taking a break to eat (tables were all covered with our work)
We got a quite bit of attention in the media prior to heading to the states. The Red Deer Advocate put a story
of us right on the front page -- the story and photo took up almost half of the page!
Shaw TV Calgary did a story on us which ran in repeats over a couple days and they said they would
continue to keep their viewers updated on our progress over the next few months.
QR77 radio interviewed me and it aired on their morning program.
Shaw Cable Red Deer also did a story us which ran in repeats.
Things went very well in LA. My brother and I met with 15 different producers and a lot of them said they
liked our idea and wanted to see our demo and full proposal. At a gala party afterwards
we ended up meeting a producer from Calgary who had some good ideas for our show and wanted
to work with us. She then introduced us to another production/distribution company out of Edmonton
who were also interested in working with us! We're excited to have our first meeting... the reality
of having our own tv show keeps getting closer and closer!
Since LA, my brother
and I have had one meeting with the Calgary producer. I left for a
trip to Israel for two weeks afterwards and am only in town for a
few days before heading to New York for a week, so it's obviously
delaying the meetings and work on the
show. Anyway, this producer offered to join up with me and Andy
to co-produce our show, which means we'll all be equal throughout
the process and Andy and I can keep more control over what happens,
as opposed to her being the executive producer. She brings with her
experience, contacts, and some fresh/new ideas. We have agreed to
change the show quite drastically from our original concept, but we're
confident that we're taking it in a direction that will be more successful
and still follow the main ideas/goals that Andy and I started with.
I can't go into many details as we have a non-disclosure agreement,
but the show will be more reality/game show based with my brother
and I being the hosts and still having bits of our original concept
mixed in. It'll still be quite a while before we have a show... it
definately takes a lot of time to become an overnight success!!
