Weekly giveaways on my Facebook Page!

One thing that’s tried and tested in the online world of promotions is that contests and giveaways can get you a lot of attention. Who doesn’t love free stuff, right? I kicked off my YouTube career with one, the $1000 YouTube Experiment, and it definitely got me a lot of attention- not just attention on YouTube but also some media attention on radio, TV, and in newspapers. The video also went on to become the most discussed video of all time for a few weeks at the end of the contest (or “experiment” as I called it because I wasn’t sure if it would work or not).

People really got into that contest because I was giving away $100 for every five thousand comments that my video got, so it was easy to enter and interactive. I did a bunch of smaller contests afterwards like the last one where I gave viewers a chance to win an iPad and a $100, but that one for example wasn’t nearly as much of a success. It’s really hard to know what will or won’t work for online contests because things online are always changing – in the same way that’s it so hard to know what will or won’t work to get your videos a lot of views. I’ve learned that the thing about contests is that you have to try to come up with something unique/new to capture your audiences attention. And just like I’ve realized with getting views, consistency is key too.  If people know to expect regular giveaways and such from you, then they’ll keep coming back to check out what they can get next.

So I’m bringing back another set of contests and this time I’m going to do them every week and all on my Facebook Page. The prizes will start out small for now, but the more entries I get, the bigger the prizes will become.  Entering will be really easy and just involve some type of interaction on my Page. Hopefully by having them on a regular basis and with an easy way of entering, it’ll encourage more people to “Like” my page and do things that help get it shown in their news feed so their friends consider joining too!
