To celebrate the year that has been 2010, YouTube has made a list commemorating the videos that drew laughter and jeering among YouTubers from the world over. Here are some of the highlights of 2010 on YouTube, according to the website itself:
- Local town hero Antoine Dodson from Huntsville, AL, saves his sister from a sexual attack and sings a message addressed to his community and “rapists” and other types of “sexual offenders” out there in a video. Views: a mere 58 million.
- Columnist and LGBT rights activist Dan Savage took his “It Gets Better” Campaign to YouTube in support of bullied gay teens in the United States. The videos went viral with President Obama and Pixar employees jumping onboard to help out.
- Sixth grader Greyson Chance’s rendition of Lady Gaga’s Paparazzi for his school’s Sixth Grade Festival in Oklahoma earns him a whopping 35 million views on YouTube, which opened doors for him and a hot record deal.
- Next, we have an orange (it’s YouTube profile says so) and an exponentially annoying one. Don’t be misled by its generally negative disposition and slow perception, because this orange has a lot of fans. The realannoyingorange is at number 9 for most subscribed channel of all time has 1.5 million subscribers and growing.
- And finally we have the “double rainbow” clip shot by Paul “Yosemite Bear” Vasquez. The video which shows a spectacular view of a rainbow above the Yosemite National Park gained 23 million views but it was because of Vasquez’s commentary that made his video a viral hit.
Oh, and I want to be sure to mention the video of the 3 year old girl crying over Justin Bieber, which also made their list. I made a spoof of it that won me $100 in a viral video contest.
I have a reason to celebrate this year too as I had some cool successes on YouTube myself. My video Only Gay in the World reached 250,000 views in just it’s first month, and for the first time I had a video reached half a million views, that being my David After Dentist spoof. And I hit a total of 3 million video views on my YouTube channels!
2010 was also the year of the Top Trending Topics show, which began as twice a week, then daily, then weekly, and now finally it’s going on a bit of a hiatus as I spend January focusing on a big project that I’m working on with Spandy Andy and also putting more focus on my main YouTube channel (which has now passed 4000 subscribers by the way)!
Thanks for watching/commenting/liking/subscribing in 2010 – 2011 is sure to be a great year and I’m really excited to continue sharing all kinds of YouTube & Social Media tips and tricks as I discover them!
